RARECAT Virgil Vineyard 2023

Winemaker Notes

We have been captivated by this wine, which is showing remarkable depth of flavor alongside the tannic structure and brightness you would expect from a cabernet from Spring Mountain.

Region Profile

Spring Mountain District

We believe Spring Mountain is where the bold go to craft truly great cabernets. This is a place where tannin and acidity form the backbone of any wine built to last in the cellar. The varied slopes and shifting sun exposures create extraordinary complexity—but they can also bring the risk of green tannins. When you get it right, the texture, balance, and depth are among the finest in the world. Our secret? A single north-facing block where we can precisely dial in ripeness—capturing vibrant acidity and the velvety texture that defines RARECAT.

Vineyard Profile

Virgil Vineyard

Grown at 400 feet on the lower slopes of Spring Mountain, the Virgil Vineyard faces north—an exposed, cooler aspect that intensifies natural acidity and elevates aromatic precision. Planted exclusively to Clone 4 cabernet sauvignon on volcanic soils layered with decomposed sandstone and shale, this site yields a wine of rare tension and elegance.
