RARECAT Russian River Pinot Noir 2022

Winemaker Notes

Crafted from two Pinot Noir clones—667 and 115—this wine is all about balance. Clone 667 brings structure and density; 115 brings perfume and juiciness. We de-stemmed into open-top tanks, cold-soaked for three days at 50°F, and performed twice-daily punchdowns for optimal extraction. Aged for nine months in 50% new French oak from a master cooper in Burgundy, the wine shows textural finesse and layered complexity, true to both site and vintage.

Region Profile

Russian River Valley

At RARECAT, our winemaking begins with intention and ends with restraint. We make wines that are elegant, complex, and balanced. Handling pinot noir is about gentle extraction and Maceration. Our Burgundian barrels are chosen for their ability to lift the wine, not overshadow it. The result is a style that values nuance over saturation.

Vineyard Profile

Bucher Vineyards

Tucked along Westside Road in the heart of the Russian River Valley, Bucher Vineyard is a place where fog meets finesse. The morning marine layer rolls in like clockwork, cooling the vines and allowing the fruit to ripen slowly, patiently—just the way pinot noir prefers. The soils here are Goldridge, a fine, sandy loam that drains well and gently stresses the vines, encouraging nuance over excess.

At RARECAT, we work with a specific block - House Block with its Dijon 115 clone. The small berries provide the structure and complexed we love in Russian River pinot noirs.
