Is it fate? Destiny? Or simply everything aligning, as if it were always meant to be?
A RARECAT is a woman of such beauty, she is a rarity. Like great wines—temptresses that reveal themselves slowly, drawing you back to the glass.
When I founded RARECAT in 2008, I searched for a seal with family, place, and purpose. I found it in an antiquities book: a coin showing a lion and a palm tree. The lion for the mountain cats in our vineyard; the palm for our home, Eight Palms.
It was Carthaginian—tied to Queen Dido, later immortalized in The Aeneid by Virgil. Her story of loss, strength, hope, and destiny echoed in mine.
Years later, at a Montana birthday, I reconnected with a Bay Area friend. Ali mentioned their Spring Mountain vineyard, recently replanted. I was intrigued. The region makes wines of elegance, power, and complexity—yet it is unforgiving. Directions were simple: “Follow the signs to Virgil.”
